"Got Moxie?"
This is my Moxie Can.
I made this for The Moxie Festival
Art Show and Sale - figured it would be appropriate :O)
Every year Lisbon Falls, Maine, hosts
The Moxie Festival. People come from all over to
enjoy Moxie Days events, drink Moxie, eat Moxie
Ice cream, and watch the Moxie Parade (Maine’s
biggest parade).
Moxie became the official state
soft drink of Maine
on May 10, 2005, even though some people have
never heard of it and a lot of the rest of us
don't like it.... It was created in 1876 by Dr.
Augustin Thompson, who used to
live in Union, Maine, while he worked for the
Ayer Drug Company in Lowell, Massachusetts. It
was originally marketed as a patent medicine called
“Moxie Nerve Food." (Maybe that's why I think it
tastes like a mixture of Robitussin and Coca-Cola).
My husband loves it though, as does one of my
daughters.
President Calvin Coolidge was known to enjoy Moxie, also Ted Williams
(Boston Red Sox) and E.B. White, who wrote‘Charlotte’s Web’ and ‘Stuart
Little’. Just thought you should know.
